7 pillars of wisdom, Proverbs 9

The wisdom pillars are placed under the house in my doodle, even though I don’t think it was used that way in Jesus’ time. I just thought of a foundation to use for wisdom, on which we build our lives. So I put them under the house.  Chapter 9 tells us the difference between wisdom and folly/ foolishness and the stark contrast: life and death. 7 pillars under the house of wisdom and I put 6 crumbly pillars under the house of foolishness in which death/ darkness reigns.

In chapter 8 of Proverbs we can find the 7 pillars of wisdom

  • understanding heart,
  • truth,
  • righteousness,
  • open to instruction,
  • knowledge,
  • fear of the Lord (is the beginning of wisdom),
  • love.

There are quite a few articles to be found on the internet about the 7 pillars. This is just what I found during my study of chapter 8. So I invite you to do your own study and maybe you could get back to me to tell me what you have found.

Here is the entire chapter in the King James version. (Click here for your version, choose in the top right box. It opens in a new window :-))

(KJV) 1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars
She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.

She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.

Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.

14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,

15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:

16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

Have a gloriously wise day!

Love,

  1. I love your doodles with your posts!
I was originally going to do that with my blogposts, I think I’ve used a few things I painted maybe one drawing, but mostly I ended up using pictures I took. Maybe I’ll start adding some of my drawings too.
Love how you tie them together!
